Russia Imposes Quotas on Romanian Embassies and Diplomatic Staff in Retaliation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia has summoned the charge d’affaires of Romania, Constantin Ionita, to present him with a note from the ministry on quotas for the number of embassies and consulates of Romania in the Russian Federation. After that, he was informed about quotas for the number of diplomatic representatives in Russia. This step was taken in response to the expulsion of Russian diplomats from Romanian territory.

“On August 3, Chargé d’Affaires ai of Romania in the Russian Federation, Ionita, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, where he was presented with a note from the Ministry on the introduction of quotas for the number of personnel of Romanian institutions in the Russian Federation as a symmetrical response to restrictions on the Russian Embassy in Bucharest and the Consulate General Russia in Constanta,” reads the message. It is published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, Romania reduced the staff of the Russian embassy on its territory. Because of this, it was reported that 21 Russian diplomats would leave the country. RT. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the decision a hostile attack.
