Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaRussia will hold regional elections in occupied Ukraine on Thursday and will end on September 10. This step was taken to strengthen Moscow’s control in claiming territory belonging to Kyiv.

Voting was held in Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, four Ukrainian territories claimed by Russia since the invasion. A Ukrainian official described the election as a sham.

The following are a number of developments related to the Russian-Ukrainian war, as compiled CNBC Indonesia from various sources:

Putin and Erdogan to Meet in Sochi

Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with Turkish Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday (4/9/2023). This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as quoted by Russian state media TASS.

Turkish officials have signaled discussions over the Black Sea wheat deal will be high on the agenda at the meeting.

The leaders will meet in the Russian resort of Sochi on the Black Sea. The meeting would mark a step forward in discussions around a food safety pact that Moscow signed in July, citing constraints on their own exports.

War Spreads to Russian Territory

Ukraine is currently on a counteroffensive operation to hit Moscow troops occupying the Donbass region.

The counterattack launched by Kyiv has in fact widened to include Russian territory. On Wednesday (30/82023), six points of the Red Bear Country were bombarded by drones of Kyiv troops, including the airfield where they destroyed a military transport plane.

Russian officials, quoted Reuters, said the attacks took place in the Pskov, Bryansk, Kaluga, Orlov, Ryazan, and Moscow regions. Even so, Moscow claimed to have thwarted all attacks against Russia, regardless of the damage done on the ground.

The strikes are part of a series of sharp increases in the number of unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs, carrying out strikes from Ukraine. They have attacked Central and Southern Russia as well as the capitals Moscow and Crimea in recent weeks.

Specifically for Crimea, Kyiv continues to target the Kerch Strait Bridge, which is the land link between Mainland Russia and the Black Sea Peninsula.

“War is about to happen in Russia. Ukraine is showing that this could make life difficult for Russia, Russia and Putin,” said Timothy Ash, an emerging market strategist at BlueBay Asset Management, commenting on this attack. CNBC International.

Usage drone in the Russo-Ukrainian war itself became one of the vital points of battle. Ukraine has been the target of thousands of Kremlin drone attacks during the conflict, and the same has been experienced by Moscow, where this is predicted to affect Russia’s domestic political map by influencing citizens’ views.
