Several explosions were heard in Odessa, an UNIAN correspondent reported.
On social networks, residents of different districts of the city reported that they heard explosions.
An air alert has been declared in Odessa and Odessa region. People have been asked to hide in shelters.
According to the Ukrainian operational command “South”, the runway at the airport was damaged as a result of a rocket attack in the Odessa region. Its further use is impossible.
According to the head of the military administration of the Odessa region Maxim Marchenko, Russian forces fired from the missile complex “Bastion” from the territory of occupied Crimea.
“The runway at Odessa airport was destroyed. Thank God no one was injured,” he said.
“Anti-sabotage actions are being carried out in the region, in order to ensure maximum security for the residents of Odessa region for the period of extended curfew,” Marchenko added.
The strike at the airport in Odessa is probably not a surprise for the local authorities, because yesterday it was announced that from 1 to 3 May the city will have a curfew.
