The Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, highlighted this Monday the global solidarity with Cuba in its fight against the US blockade, when meeting here with his counterpart from this nation, Bruno Rodríguez.
Lavrov pointed out that, despite the almost unanimous support of the international community for the resolution presented at the UN by Cuba to denounce the economic blockade, Washington maintains that policy.
The head of Russian diplomacy affirmed that the West tries to prevent in every possible way the formation of a multipolar world, through threats, the use of force and unilateral punitive measures, of which Cuba has been a victim, he noted.
We advocate mobilizing the international community in solidarity with this country and we will seek to comply with the principles established in the UN Charter, including respect for the sovereignty of States, declared the Russian Foreign Minister at the beginning of the official talks. The Russian Foreign Minister expressed his intention to discuss with Rodríguez the development of multilateral relations between both States.
For his part, the head of Cuban diplomacy affirmed that Lavrov’s visit constitutes another step in strengthening Cuba’s exchange with the Russian Federation, which, he noted, we appreciate as a close ally with which we have historical relations.
His presence here reaffirms the close ties between the two countries that have many similarities in aspects of the international arena, said the Foreign Minister of the Caribbean nation, who thanked Moscow for actions of solidarity with his country.
Previously, Lavrov laid a wreath at the capital’s José Martí Memorial, as part of his activities on this island, the first of his tour of Latin America, which also includes a visit to Venezuela and participation in the meeting of foreign ministers of the Group of 20, in Rio de Janeiro.
