After the Taliban seized power in Kabul in mid-August, Western banks froze Afghan and donor funds worth billions of dollars to deny these assets the Taliban-led government.

However, in early December, the US Treasury allowed the country’s citizens and permanent residents to make personal money transfers to Afghanistan.

SWIFT is an international bank information transfer and payment system used by more than 11,000 of the largest organizations in nearly all countries.
