Russia has suspended gas supplies to Poland under the Yamal contract. The Russians did not notify the Polish side of the reasons for the suspension of supplies.
At the end of March, Putin announced that a decision had been made to convert payments for gas supplies to Europe into rubles as soon as possible.
The European Commission said that payment in rubles would be considered a circumvention of the sanctions imposed against Russia. Payments under contracts providing for payment in euros or dollars must be made in these currencies, the EC noted.
Most European countries, except Hungary, refused to pay for gas in rubles.
