The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on states with nuclear weapons to stop supporting provocations on the use of nuclear weapons. He called on states to ensure global strategic stability. But he listed the scenarios when he is ready to use them.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia issued Press release, which clearly indicates under what circumstances a country is willing to use nuclear weapons. He defends the decision with fear of national security.
Russia states in the report that it will use nuclear weapons if there is a threat to the existence of the state. “A reaction with the use of nuclear weapons is hypothetically allowed by Russia only in response to aggression with weapons of mass destruction or aggression with conventional weapons, when the existence of the state is threatened,” the ministry emphasizes.
At the same time, Russia calls on other countries to end the escalation of a possible nuclear conflict. In the current situation, according to Russia, preventing a nuclear conflict should be a priority for all states that have nuclear weapons. The opposite could have a catastrophic impact, she said.
The head of foreign policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, according to the server Euronews he said that a Russian nuclear attack on Ukraine would provoke “such a strong response from the West that the Russian army would be destroyed”. The United States takes the nuclear threat seriously. However, he doesn’t think Russia would actually want to use nuclear weapons.
The debate on the use of nuclear weapons has reignited after Russia accused Ukraine of planning the use of the so-called “dirty bomb”. Presumably it would contaminate its surroundings with radioactive material. But Ukraine and the West view the allegations as false.
