Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned this Monday that Moscow “could take a military response” if the United States and NATO do not give strong security guarantees as the Alliance’s forces approach the western borders of the Russian Federation.
“The failure to resolve this issue through diplomacy forces us to consider a military response,” Ryabkov said in an interview with Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency.
The Kremlin has repeatedly expressed concern about the deployment of short- and medium-range missiles, which they say only “increases tensions”.
Ryabkov said Moscow did not believe NATO’s claims that it would not have missiles with nuclear warheads.
We simply do not trust NATO. Many times we have witnessed how they say one thing, then another, and finally a third, the diplomat commented.
