“Russia has made it clear that it is rejecting diplomacy.” Blinken cancels his appointment with Lavrov

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced on Tuesday that he had canceled a scheduled meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov this week because Russia had launched an invasion of Ukraine.

“Now that we see this invasion begin and Russia has indicated that it is rejecting diplomacy, there is no point in holding this meeting at this time,” Blinken said.

A meeting between Blinken and Lavrov was scheduled for Thursday in Geneva.

Earlier on Tuesday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Ledria canceled a scheduled meeting with Lavrov on Friday. France holds the presidency of the European Union (EU) this semester.
