Russia has lost 70-80,000 people in the war in Ukraine

Another one of the defenders of “Azovstal” died in prison in the DNR

Russia has lost between 70,000 and 80,000 people in the six months of war in Ukraine. We are talking about killed or wounded Russian soldiers, US Deputy Defense Minister Colin Kahl said, quoted by international agencies. He said the number was remarkable, especially considering that Russia had not achieved any of the goals set by President Vladimir Putin at the start of the war.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, 42,640 Russian soldiers were killed, including 11 generals. Russia has not reported its losses for a long time. The last official information was given on March 25. Then the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that 1,351 servicemen had died in Ukraine.

Ukraine is also not forthcoming on the subject. In June, it was reported that 100 to 200 Ukrainian defenders were killed at the front. According to Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov, the number is currently much smaller. “It’s about two or three times less. I think it’s about 30-50 people a day. But the General Staff can give the specific numbers,” said President Zelensky’s advisor Mihail Podolyak. He explained that the shocking data was at the transition from the first to the second phase of the war, when the great artillery positional war began and the Ukrainian positions were bombarded with shells of various calibers, and they had nothing to respond with. Today, the Ukrainians have more western weapons and therefore their losses are much smaller.

The US has approved another $1 billion military aid package for Ukraine, which includes HIMARS ammunition, artillery weapons and mortars, the Javelin and AT4 anti-tank systems, ammunition, medical equipment and more. So far, the US government has provided Ukraine with $9.8 billion in military aid, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement.

Over the past month, Russia has managed to advance 10 km in Donbass, according to British intelligence in its latest analysis of the situation on the front. “The main movement is in the Bakhmut region. On the remaining sections of the front in Donbas, Russian troops have moved no more than 3 km. Despite the intensive use of artillery in these areas, Russia has not been able to accumulate combat-capable infantry to provide it a significant step forward,” the analysis also reads.

Meanwhile, another defender of Azovstal died in prison in the Donetsk People’s Republic. According to TASS, this is a participant in the “subversion-assault group “Medvedi SS”” who suffered from “drug addiction, which led to the worsening of his chronic diseases”.

On July 10, the British volunteer Paul Urie, who was captured near Mariupol, died in a prison in the DPR “from illness and stress”.

On July 29, 53 prisoners of war from “Azovstal” were killed in an explosion in the Elenovka colony, also located on the territory of the DPR, and over 130 were injured. The Russians accused the Ukrainian side of shelling the colony with HIMARS. However, most independent experts and Ukraine claim that it was an explosion placed inside the premises. Despite promises, Russia has still not allowed Red Cross and UN representatives into Elenovka.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested that Western countries close their borders to all Russians.

“Whatever the Russians are… let them go to Russia… The most important sanctions are the closing of the borders. Let them live in their own world until they change their philosophy,” the Ukrainian president said in an interview with The Washington Post. According to him, all Russians are responsible for the government because they chose it and do not fight against it. “These are the only ways to influence Putin,” the Ukrainian president said.
