Russia has filed a complaint with the ECtHR against Ukraine for its own crimes / Article

Russia said on Thursday that it had filed a lawsuit against Ukraine at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), accusing Kiev of shooting down a passenger plane over eastern Ukraine in 2014, as well as the deaths of Russian and Ukrainian civilians.

Russia has sent the ECtHR “an intergovernmental claim against Ukraine under Article 33 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms,” the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement.

Russia the complaint lists the Kremlin’s allegations, in which the Ukrainian authorities are blamed both for the deaths of civilians killed during the 2014 uprising by the Moscow-backed regime of then-Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, and for the deaths of people caused by Russia’s invasion of eastern Ukraine.

Moscow also complains about the deaths of civilians on its territory, allegedly caused by the shooting of southern Russia by the Ukrainian army.

“Ukraine’s armed forces are carrying out hostile actions that pose a real threat to the lives of Russian citizens living in border regions and are forcing thousands of Ukrainian citizens to seek refuge in Russia,” the statement said.

Moscow also blames Ukraine for the deaths of 298 people killed in the summer of 2014 in the crash of a Malaysian airliner, the Boeing 777, which, according to an international investigation, militant gangs maintained by the Kremlin were defeated over Eastern Ukraine, to which the Russian army had handed over the anti – aircraft missile device “Buk”.

According to Moscow, Kiev is to blame for this crime because it did not close its airspace due to the war caused by Russia.

Russia also complains of discrimination against so-called Russian-speakers and their companies in Ukraine, as well as Kiev’s refusal to supply water to the occupied and annexed Crimean peninsula.

Ukraine has been in a de facto war with Russia since the annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014.

In addition, Russia has invaded mainland Ukraine since the occupation of Crimea. Currently, Moscow’s armed and funded militant gangs control large areas of Donbass in eastern Ukraine.

After a more peaceful period last year, hostilities escalated again earlier this year, and in April Russia mobilized an army of 100,000 men at the Ukrainian border and in Crimea, raising concerns about a resumption of full-scale hostilities.

However, Moscow claimed that units concentrated at the border were participating in military exercises and that this was a reaction to NATO maneuvers.

Although Moscow later announced the withdrawal of its units to the usual deployment areas, Washington and Kiev claim that part of the Russian troops remained at the Ukrainian border.

In addition, the Kremlin recently published a historical reflection “written” by Russian President Vladimir Putin experts translate as an actual application for territorial claims Ukraine.
