Scientists at the Gamaleya Center have completed the development of a new safe vaccine against mumps. Izvestia about this told Director of the institution Alexander Gintsburg.
According to scientists, the new drug with a genetic engine causes much fewer side effects than the previous one containing a live virus. To start mass use of the vaccine, experts will conduct preclinical and clinical studies, which will take about a year.
It is noted that an effective treatment for monkeypox may be needed in the near future, since the WHO, due to a sharp increase in the number of infections, has declared the disease epidemic in Africa as an emergency. Experts believe that border controls will prevent the large spread of the disease. However, the disease may enter our country in the next few years.
Monkeypox does not develop immediately; in the first stages of the disease, when there are still no symptoms, it will be possible to vaccinate people at high risk of infection and thus prevent the risk of spreading the disease.
