Russia has deployed a missile system next to Japan – on the disputed Kuril Islands

Russia has deployed the Bastion coastal anti-ship defense system on the disputed Kuril Islands near Japan. The complexes are located on the island of Matua.

“The calculations of the coastal missile complex Bastion of the Pacific Fleet have been deployed for the first time and took over duty on the island of Matua,” the Russian defense ministry said in a statement.

They noted that the missile systems will be on duty around the clock. Their tasks include monitoring the adjacent Pacific Ocean and straits.
