Four people were killed today, including two children, in an explosion at a gas station in Grozny, the capital of the Republic of Chechnya – Russia’s federal subject in the Caucasus – emergency services said.
The Russian Ministry of Emergencies reported this news of the accident, clarifying that the fire had been brought under control.
Videos of the incident, published in Russian media, show a large fireball ignited by the explosion.
Accidents of a similar type are common in Russia, often due to violations of safety standards or dilapidated facilities.
In late September, an explosion at a gas station in Dagestan, a federal subject of Russia adjacent to Chechnya, left 13 dead and around ten injured.
In August 2023, also in Dagestan, 37 people were killed and another 119 injured in a similar accident on the outskirts of Makhachkala, the regional capital.
