CRIMEARussia said on Friday (11/18/2022) that it was strengthening its position on the Crimea peninsula, which it annexed to Ukraine in 2014.

This move comes as Kievan forces are retaking territory in Kherson.

“Fortification works are underway on the territory of Crimea under my control with the aim of ensuring the safety of all citizens of Crimea,” Moscow-appointed governor of the Crimea region, Sergei Aksyonov, said on social media.

He did not explain the construction of the fort in more detail.

Meanwhile, Russia has not ruled out further high-level meetings with the United States (US) on “strategic stability,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Friday.

The next meeting between the two powers in Cairo on nuclear proliferation is approaching.

“If America shows interest and willingness, we will not refuse,” Ryabkov said.
