The Russian Ministry of Defense reported in November that a third air assault regiment would be formed within the Novorossiysk Airborne Division on December 1. The regiment will be formed under plans to convert the separate Kamyshin guard air strike unit, it said.
Previously, the 76th Air Assault Division (Pskov) and the 7th Mountain Air Assault Division (Novorossiysk) each had two regiments. Earlier on December 24, 1,200 paratroopers conducted exercises in the Crimea and Krasnodar Territory.
“The battalion’s initial tactical exercises with an assault and reinforcement battalion have been carried out,” the Russian military told Interfax. In practical exercises, combat training tasks are carried out by tactical groups in attack using reconnaissance troops and conventional means of identifying enemy objects in order to organize their defeat with standard artillery and mounted means.

Team action moves to combat drones is also shown. “In completing the task of combat training, the paratroopers hit a conditional target, indicating the drone as a potential enemy,” the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said, as quoted by Interfax.
“Shooting was carried out with standard small arms and BMD-2K-AU air combat vehicles, ZU-23 anti-aircraft guns, and Verba MANPADS. Also from the three firing positions were artillery unit action, the TOS-1A “Solntsepek” heavy fire-throwing system and 2 C-9 Nona self-propelled artillery guns, which suppressed firing points, points of concentration, and conditional enemy command positions,” the statement continued. .
