Russia ‘Forbids’ Turkey to sell S-400 Missile Launchers to the United States

VIVA – The desire of the United States (US) to have a S-400 long-range missile launching system made in Russia seems to be aground in the middle of the road. Because, Russia forbids alias prohibits Turkey from selling weapons bought from Russia to other countries without Moscow’s permission, including the United States.

Russian Federal spokesman for military technical cooperation, Maria Vorobyova said, Turkey could not resell Russian-made S-400 to the United States (US) without approval from Moscow, Russia. That was said by Vorobyova in response to the plan of the United States Senator who is trying to get a Russian-made long-range missile launching system from Turkey by amending the Law Against Americans against Sanctions (CAATSA).

“Turkey cannot re-export Russia’s Russian S-400 defense systems without Moscow’s permission,” Maria Vorobyova was quoted as saying by the VIVA Military news agency. Interfax, Wednesday, July 1 2020.

As reported previously, the United States secretly wanted to buy the latest S-400 missile launcher system made in Russia from Turkey.

The US desire came to light when a Republican Senate member of the United States proposed an amendment to a law allowing the United States to buy a Russian-made S-400 defense system amid threats of embargo sanctions imposed by Washington on Ankara for the purchase of Russian equipment by Turkey.

Senate Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee Jim Risch said, an amendment that would make the Trump administration impose sanctions on Turkey under the American Opponents Law through Sanctions (CAATSA), 30 days after the proposed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) had to be carried out immediately.

“I think the US buying S-400 from Turkey is a smart way to get Erdogan out of the bottleneck he is doing. We just want to get the system out of Turkey […] and if it allows the Turks to take part in the F-35 then things will get better, “former Pentagon official for European and NATO policy, Jim Townsend, quoted from Defense News.

To note, the United States previously had CAATSA laws governing embargo sanctions against other countries that buy weapons or defense system equipment from Russia.

The last that is threatened by sanctions from America is Turkey. The United States sanctioned Turkey because Erdogan bought a Russian flagship S-400 missile launcher from a Russian manufacturer. Turkey is threatened. America plans to expel Turkey from the multinational F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program if Turkey does not cancel the S-400 purchase contract with Russia signed by Erdogan in 2019. Erdogan insisted he did not heed the threat of sanctions from America. He prefers to keep buying the S-400 made in Russia.
