Russia: Five dead, 46 injured by Ukrainian strike in Belgorod (Videos) – 2024-09-01 20:04:24

Five people were killed and 46 others were injured by a Ukrainian attack in Russia and more specifically in the southwestern city of Belgorod late yesterday, Friday, the local governor announced.

Vychislav Gladkov said that 37 of the injured, including seven children, were taken to hospital.

Video taken from inside a car, posted on social media and purportedly showing the attack, shows another car being blown up as it drove down the road. Seconds later there is an explosion on the other side of the road. Reuters cannot currently confirm the authenticity of the video.

The Investigative Committee of Russia announced on its Telegram channel that it has opened a criminal investigation into the attack in Belgorod.

Authorities also reported that a woman was injured today during Ukrainian shelling of the border town of Sebekino in the Belgorod region.

Ukraine has frequently launched attacks on Belgorod and other border regions of Russia in recent months. The city is the focal point of the attacks.

Ukraine and Russia say they are not intentionally targeting civilians in the war that began when Russia sent thousands of troops to its smaller neighbor in February 2022. Moscow calls the invasion a “special military operation.”
