Reported by AFP, Sunday (13/8/2023), the Russian Ministry of Defense said the patrol boat Vasily Bykov spotted a cargo ship sailing under the Palau flag on its way to the Port of Izmail, Ukraine.

“To force the ship to stop, warning shots from automatic small arms were fired from the Russian warship,” the defense ministry said in a statement.
Furthermore, a helicopter carrying Russian military personnel was then deployed to inspect the ship. After the inspection was complete, Sukru Okan was allowed to continue his journey.
Izmail is now the main export route for Ukrainian agricultural products.
Following its withdrawal from the Black Sea grain deal in July, Moscow has been pounding ports in Ukraine’s southern Odesa region which is key to grain exports granted safe passage under the deal.
