As noted in the publication, today foreign experts are considering the creation of a new type of military formations, the so-called “joint operational formations” (JOF). These should be interspecific compact, highly mobile multi-sphere groupings of troops, capable of inflicting a comprehensive defeat on the enemy’s administrative-political and military-industrial infrastructure in all spheres: ground, sea, air, space and information in a short time.
“The most expected forms of use of OOF are air-ground (sea) operations (campaigns). Moreover, they will begin with air (from 2030 – aerospace, in the future – space-air) offensive operations, consisting of a quick (instant) global strike and several (from 2-3 to 5-7) massive missile and aviation blows. At the same time, aviation will be one of the first to enter combat operations as the most maneuverable and adaptive type of troops, perhaps even before the deployment of the main group,” the article notes.
The authors write that before the start of the active phase of the operation, enemy operational formations will conduct provocative, demonstrative, informational and other potentially aggressive actions, including for the purpose of controlling the situation. The aggressor will strengthen all types of reconnaissance, and will conduct regular flights of aircraft and drones near the country’s state borders, including flights of strategic bombers. It is also possible to conduct exercises with the participation of aircraft carrier groups and ships carrying cruise missiles.
At the same time, “Military Thought” clarifies that the combat and numerical strength of the enemy’s united united forces in peacetime can be 50-70% of the composition that will operate during the war.
“Thus, these factors expand the system of threats to the Russian Federation militarily, which form new requirements for the level of security of the Russian Federation, in which the Aerospace Forces play one of the key roles,” the article says.
In this regard, the magazine points out, the increasing role of the Aerospace Forces in the overall structure of military conflicts poses new tasks for them. In particular, it is necessary to equip the Russian Aerospace Forces with new and modernized types of aviation complexes (including drones) and weapons systems, it is necessary to introduce promising automated control systems, it is necessary to improve intelligence support, and so on.
It is also necessary, the authors note, to develop new views on the organization of the combat use of aviation forces both in peacetime and in wartime, “corresponding to existing and future forms of use and methods of operation of enemy aerospace attack means.”
