Russia Faces Acute Shortage of Bulk Carriers for Transporting Goods

The Russian Federation has an acute shortage of bulk carriers – ships for transporting goods in bulk.

The Russian corporation AEON is faced with the problem of removing coal from its deposits in Taimyr. It lacks bulk carriers to transport goods by sea.

This is stated in the new report of the Russian Ministry of Eastern Development, dedicated to the impact of sanctions, reports Dialogue.UA.

AEON lacks 16 Arcticmax ships to transport coal from the Syradasay coal deposit in Taimyr. At the moment, the corporation has not concluded a single contract for the construction of bulk carriers, although it will need the first two vessels at the end of 2025, and all the rest by 2030.

The problems were caused by sanctions. The operator of the project for the development of the Syradasay coal deposit was on the “black list” of the West. As a result, foreign shipbuilders refuse to cooperate with AEON, and in Russia itself there is no free capacity.

Moscow found itself in a very unpleasant situation in the context of rising costs of ships in the world. The shipbuilding market today belongs to three countries: South Korea, Japan and China. The first two countries joined the sanctions against the Russian Federation and the Russian Federation will probably not be able to cooperate with them. The only salvation for Moscow is the PRC.

As a result, experts note, cargo traffic on the Northern Sea Route could collapse by 24 million tons by 2035. This is a very heavy economic blow.

Earlier, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other post-Soviet countries announced strengthening of sanctions.

We also wrote that Bloomberg learned the name of the Russian assistant in circumventing oil sanctions.
