Russia’s new energy strategy, announced at a recent conference in Moscow, represents an important evolution from the country’s geopolitical and economic perspective. In terms of geopolitics, Russia is trying to strengthen its influence around the world by controlling traditional energy resources such as gas and oil, in an international context characterized by sanctions and increasing competition.
Moscow aims to strengthen its role as an energy supplier to friendly countries, especially in Asia, Africa and Latin America, avoiding dependence on Western markets. Russia is focusing on “technological dominance” to ensure leadership in the energy sector and reduce vulnerability to economic sanctions imposed by G7 countries.
From an economic perspective, the government’s goal is to invest in new technologies and digital innovations that can improve efficiency in energy production, increasing the extraction capacity of gas, oil and coal.
The declared intention is to make Russia’s GDP grow at a faster rate than world economies, achieving technological leadership by 2050. However, the energy strategy does not completely exclude renewable sources, but it is intended to be used in parallel with fossil fuels, recognizing that demand. for energy from oil and gas remains high, especially in emerging markets. The planned investment of 50 billion rubles for the next two years shows the intention to consolidate Russia’s position as a major player in the global energy market. This strategic vision is based on three fundamental pillars: credibility, access and efficiency, to ensure Russia’s competitiveness both internally and externally, despite the adverse economic and political context international.
