Russia ends diplomatic relations with NATO from November

MOSCOWRussia announced that it would completely cease operations of its mission to NATO. The move comes two weeks after the US-led bloc expelled eight Russian diplomats for alleged classified espionage at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Speaking on Monday (10/18/2021), Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also revealed the NATO information bureau in Moscow would be forced to close as part of retaliatory measures.

Earlier this month, NATO officials decided to cut the number of Russia’s permanent delegation to the bloc by revoking the credentials of eight envoys.

The move was in response to what he called “suspected defamatory Russian activities.”

Following the NATO decision, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned Moscow would respond.

“Now, if the US-led bloc wants to talk to Russia, they have to deal with the embassy in Belgium,” Lavrov said.
