Russia disconnected the Kherson region from the Ukrainian Internet

The British Ministry of Defense suggests that Russia’s actions in the region “probably indicate Russia’s intention to exert strong political and economic influence on Kherson for a long period.”

Russia disconnected the Kherson region from the Ukrainian Internet, redirecting the region’s Internet traffic through its communications infrastructure. About it informs British IT company NetBlocks.

It is reported that the company on Saturday recorded the fact of a complete disconnection of the region from Ukrainian providers. The connection was restored after a few hours, but it turned out that the traffic is now going through Russia.

“The connection on the network was routed through Russian, not Ukrainian, telecommunications infrastructure, so is likely subject to regulation, surveillance, and censorship,” the NetBlocks website says.

According to the British Ministry of Defense, Russia’s actions in the region “probably indicate Russia’s intention to exert strong political and economic influence on Kherson for a long period.”

Earlier, the Ministry of Digital Development of Ukraine reported that work to restore communication in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions is already underway. There were no messages about the results of the work.
