MOSCOW – Minister of Foreign Affairs Russia, Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow does not agree with the position Turkey in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He also said that a military solution to resolve the conflict was unacceptable.

“We do not agree with the position voiced by Turkey, which has also been expressed several times by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev,” Lavrov said during an interview with Russian radio. (Also read: Urged to Withdraw Troops from Syria, Turkey Calls the EU Arrogant)

“It is no secret that we cannot agree with the statement that a military solution to the conflict is permissible,” the senior Russian diplomat continued, as reported by Reuters on Monday (14/10/2020).

Lavrov added that it would be appropriate to deploy Russian military observers on the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh to monitor the situation of the ceasefire. However, the decision on this matter rests with Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Meanwhile, previously, the President of Armenia, Armen Sarkiskyan believed that Russia was the only country that could not only mediate the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, but also help cease hostilities between the warring parties. Sarkiskyan said, for one thing, Moscow has good relations and strong influence on both sides.

“The ceasefire is a complicated matter. In this case, we should all be grateful to the Russians,” Sarkiskyan said. (See graphic: Future Russian Sniper Rifle, 7 Kilometer of Havoc)

Russia has good relations with Armenia, close relations with Azerbaijan, so Russia is a country that can not only act as a mediator in negotiations, but perhaps the only one that can act as a mediator to stop military action on the front lines and behind it,” he added. .
