President Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia destroyed all critical infrastructure in the Kherson region. This area has been recaptured by the Ukrainian army in the last week.
“Before winter, the Russian occupiers completely destroyed all important infrastructure,” Zelensky said in his daily speech after visiting Kherson, which had been liberated from Russia.
“Absolutely all important structures in the city and in the area have been mined,” he said.
Zelensky said there was no electricity for the Internet in Kherson. He said Russia destroyed everything on purpose.
“There is no electricity, no communication, no internet, no television. The colonialists destroyed everything themselves, on purpose,” he said.
“That’s what the Russian flag means, total annihilation,” Zelensky said, promising a return to normal life.
National energy company Ukraine Ukrenergo said Russia destroyed major energy infrastructure supplying the entire right-bank Kherson region and most of the Mykolaiv region.
“Most of the liberated Kherson region has been without electricity since November 6,” said Ukrenergo head Volodymyr Kudrytskyi.
“We are doing our best to get people electricity as soon as possible,” he added.
The recapture of the southern city of Kherson, the only regional capital held by Moscow’s forces, was a major blow to Putin’s offensive.
During a visit to Kherson on Monday, Zelensky said the city’s liberation was “the beginning of the end of the war”.
