Russia denied the withdrawal of its forces from the Ukrainian town of Andreivka near Bakhmut – today, Saturday – after the Ukrainian General Staff announced their withdrawal from it yesterday, Friday.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said – in its daily bulletin – that the Ukrainian forces tried to remove the Russian army from villages near Bakhmut, to no avail, as it put it.
Yesterday, Friday, the Ukrainian army announced that it had recaptured the town of Andreyivka, located about 10 kilometers south of Bakhmut, which is one of the main axes of the Ukrainian counter-attack that is facing difficulties, after Moscow announced its control of the city last May.
The Ukrainian army added that it had inflicted heavy losses on Russian forces in the clashes in the town of Andreivka, while a spokesman for a Ukrainian brigade said that Andreivka was completely destroyed as a result of the battles, adding that the town “no longer exists.”
Bombing and shooting down drones
The military administration in Kharkiv said that 5 people were injured by Russian bombing that used S-300 missiles.
The administration announced that 4 explosions were heard in the city on Saturday morning, and asked residents to remain in shelters until a notification was issued to leave them.
An explosion was also heard in the town of Orekhov, south of Zaporozhye, where local authorities said it was caused by a Russian missile bombardment that had been repeated in recent days.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Defense said – today, Saturday – that its air defense shot down a drone launched by Ukraine across the border into the Belgorod region, after the ministry announced earlier today that it shot down two Ukrainian drones over the Kaluga and Tver regions.
Threat to Russian ships
In a related development, Ukrainian Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov – who plays a major role in building the unmanned units sector – said that his country will be able to launch more attacks with unmanned units on Russian ships.
Fedorov added that Ukraine’s production of drones increased this year compared to the previous year, and he reported that his country is testing artificial intelligence systems that can identify targets several kilometers away and direct drones to them even if external communications are disrupted due to electronic warfare measures, he said.
His statement comes after Ukraine launched several attacks last week with drones and missiles on the Russian Navy fleet in the Black Sea near the Crimean Peninsula.
Russia reported that its warship and submarine were damaged in a Ukrainian missile attack last week, but it says it repels all drone attacks.
