Russia denies allegations of hacker attacks by military intelligence

“It is quite clear that the publication of such information has nothing to do with reality. The only goal is to warm up anti-Russian sentiments in American society, to unleash witch hunts and spy mania, “a source from the Russian embassy in Washington told the news agency.

On Monday, the US Department of Justice announced accusations of six current and former members of Russian military intelligence GRU of participating in a series of hacker attacks that hit targets from the last Winter Olympics in South Korea, through the Ukrainian energy network to the French presidential election in 2017.

The cyber attacks were alleged to help the Kremlin’s geopolitical interests and destabilize or punish Moscow’s enemies, the AP agency wrote.

Britain said on Monday that Russian military intelligence had planned and prepared cyber attacks to disrupt this year’s Olympic Games in Japan, which were postponed by a coronavirus pandemic for next year.
