Russia Could Plunge Europe into a Great War

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson remind Russia that an invasion of Ukraine could plunge Europe into the biggest war since World War II in 1945.

“The fact is that the planned signs have begun,” Boris told BBCquoted from AFP.

Johnson then quoted US intelligence reports that said Russia would deploy its troops into Ukraine from the east, via the Donbas, down to Belarus and ending in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.

“All parties need to understand the huge losses in human life that can occur, not only for Ukraine but also for Russia” he said.

Boris made this point at a conference in Germany, while discussing the annual security conference with world leaders.

“I’m afraid to say that the plan we’re looking at is something that could be the biggest war in Europe since 1945.”

Boris further explained one of the sanctions that Russia could impose if the war started. Among them by stopping the use of Pounds and Dollars when transacting with Russian companies.

The British government has long been accused of turning a blind eye to the lucrative flow of Russian money, some of which goes to conservatives but is claimed by the party as legal donations.

Ukraine continues to be under threat of a Russian invasion. In recent days Russia has carried out military exercises and weapons tests that have worried NATO.

The White House revealed that US President Joe Biden’s national security team still believes Russia could carry out an attack in Ukraine “at any time”.

Biden is also said to be planning to convene his top advisers on Sunday to discuss the crisis.

In line with the US, foreign ministers from the G7 rich group of countries claim they see no evidence that Russia is reducing its military activity on the Ukrainian border and are very concerned about the situation.
