Despite the sanctions, Russia continues to buy foreign electronics. Other countries are helping her in this, said Jim O’Brien, coordinator for sanctions at the US State Department, reports Politico.
He noted that by the beginning of 2023, imports of key microchips and electronics to Russia had recovered to the level that was observed before the imposition of sanctions by the West. This happened due to the sale of chips, processors and integrated circuits by European companies to third countries, which then resell them to Russia. These components are necessary for the production of modern weapons systems, so Washington is seeking to limit such supplies to the Russian Federation.
According to the State Department, at least five countries allegedly help Russia get chips and other electronics – Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
