WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State Brinken said during a meeting with Wang Yi, a member of the Communist Party of China’s Politburo, that China was considering providing lethal weapons to Russia during an ABC TV program aired on the 19th. There was a warning that it would be a “serious problem.”
Mr. Brinken and Mr. Wang Yi had a face-to-face meeting in Munich, Germany on the 18th, and exchanged criticisms about the balloon problem. Regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he also warned of dire consequences if China provided aid to Russia in supplies or sanctions evasion.
Blinken postponed a trip to China earlier this month due to the balloon problem. Mr. Biden and Mr. Xi met in November last year, and the momentum for dialogue between the United States and China was born, but it quickly withered due to the hot air balloon issue.
