Russia confiscates many weapons supplied by the West to Ukraine

MOSCOW – US President Joe Biden said in January that he had sent more than $600 million in military aid to Ukraine since taking office a year earlier.

On Thursday, Congressional Democrats announced plans to send another $600 million in aid.

But the shocking facts came to light when the Russian military said on Friday that it had seized large quantities of Western-supplied weapons on Ukrainian soil.

“The various weapons include the US-made FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile and the British-made MBT NLAW anti-tank missile,” the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

Two fire-and-forget missile systems have been a key part of Western aid supplied to Ukraine in recent years, intended as a soft defense against Russia’s sizable armored forces.

Biden said in January that he had sent $600 million in aid to Ukraine, which is just a drop in the bucket of shipments sent since 2014.
