Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu confirmed Russia had successfully tested the anti-satellite system. This success made the West even more wary of Moscow’s military capabilities.
“We actually managed to test a promising system. To be precise, it hit an old satellite,” said Shoigu in response to a reporter’s question while on a work trip to the troops of the Western Military District in the Voronezh region.

“Shards of old satellites formed during testing of anti-satellite systems do not pose a threat to space activity,” said Sergei Shoigu.
Earlier in the day, Russia’s Defense Ministry said the United States was well aware that the debris of the crashed satellite did not pose a threat to the International Space Station (ISS) or other space assets, given the timing of the test and orbital parameters.
“The debris has immediately been added to the main catalog of the Russian space control system and will be tracked until it is no longer available,” the ministry said.
