Russian officials have accused the United States (USA) of Russophobia and plans to destabilize the situation in Moldova after the presidential elections scheduled for next month. Moscow has stepped up rhetoric against Washington after the US once again accused Russia of cyber attacks abroad.
Russian President Vladimir Putn’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov dismissed allegations made by the US Department of Justice against six agents of the General Staff of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces about cyber attacks on the Ukrainian power grid, the 2017 French presidential election and the 2018 Winter Olympics as completely unfounded.
Peskov called the accusations of the US authorities “unhealthy Russophobia, which has nothing to do with reality”. A Kremlin spokesman said the Russian government and special services had never carried out hacker attacks.
Sergei Narishkin, head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service, said the United States special services were preparing for a revolution in Moldova, where presidential elections would take place on November 1. Narishkin said Americans did not want to allow the re-election of current Moldovan President Igor Dodon for a second term because he preferred friendly relations with Russia.
