Russia Claims Control of Small Village in Kharkiv Ukraine

Jakarta

Russia claims to have controlled the small village, Gryanikovka, in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Russia says it has liberated the village.

Reporting from AFP, Russia took control of the village of Gryanikovka on Saturday (18/2/2023), the village is near the city of Kupinask, Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine.

Russia on Saturday claimed control of a small village near the main city of Kupiansk in northeastern Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.

“Gryanikovka settlement… is completely liberated,” the defense ministry said in a statement, referring to the Ukrainian village of Gryanykivka by its Russian name.

Gryanykivka was home to around 600 people before the start of Russia’s offensive in Ukraine last February.

In September, Russian troops withdrew from key cities in the north-eastern Kharkiv region, including the main railway hub Kupiansk.

Kupiansk is near the front lines in eastern Ukraine and locals fear it could be taken again.

The Ukrainian army said early Saturday that Russian troops were “taking offensive actions” in several cities including Kupiansk and Bakhmut, eastern cities which have been the scene of the war’s longest and bloodiest fighting so far.
