Russia called on both Armenia and Azerbaijan to immediately return to the existing agreements on the Karabakh region, after the two sides yesterday exchanged accusations of setting up checkpoints unilaterally and in violation of the tripartite agreements with Russia in the Lachin corridor that connects Armenia and the Karabakh region.
The RT website quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement today: “It is unacceptable to take any unilateral steps that violate the basic provisions of the tripartite statement of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed on November 9, 2020, whether it is related to an unacceptable change in the mechanism of the corridor’s work.” Lachin or attempts to use it for purposes inconsistent with the peace agenda.”
The statement expressed Moscow’s concern about this ongoing escalation, expressing hope that Baku and Yerevan would show political will and be able to overcome this negative path in the near future.
