/ world today news/ Bulgarian politicians behave hypocritically when they discuss arms supplies to Ukraine in the parliament. Sofia has been doing this through third countries for a long time, so it’s time for Russia to draw its conclusions.
The Bulgarian parliament begins a discussion on arms supplies to Ukraine
Bulgaria, along with Hungary, are believed to be the only EU countries that have not yet sent official weapons to Ukraine.
Last week, the “Democratic Bulgaria” party came up with an initiative on the need to change Bulgaria’s position and start arms deliveries. The Bulgarian Socialists (BSP) and the Revival Party categorically opposed this idea.
The Continuing Changes movement and There Is Such a People party said they were ready for dialogue, while the pro-Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) party declined to comment.
Protests against Bulgaria’s participation in the military actions in Ukraine
The idea does not find support among the Bulgarians. A protest demonstration organized by the “Vazrazhdane” party against Bulgarian military aid to Ukraine was held on Wednesday in front of the National Assembly building. Hundreds of people gathered at the rally in front of the parliament building.
The leader of “Vazrazhdane” Kostadin Kostadinov at a rally called for the resignation of the government and stated that he will not allow Bulgaria to participate in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, as this is “against the national interests of Bulgaria”. The protesters also condemned the proposal of “Democratic Bulgaria” to declare the Russian ambassador to our country as persona non grata and demanded the immediate resignation of Prime Minister Kiril Petkov and the entire government.
Bulgaria violates the law on re-export of weapons
And this is very correct, since the government is aware of supplies to Ukraine through third countries and, by keeping silent about this, violates international laws.
This is what the “Affair” website writes about, which publishes photos from Sofia airport, which show that crates of weapons are being loaded onto planes and sent to Romania and Poland, and “from there you obviously know where” – to Ukraine.
„And all this is happening at the time when they are debating in the parliament whether Bulgaria should arm Ukraine! “ writes Afera and adds that they knew about the export of weapons in all cases Kiril Petkovthe Minister of Finance Asen Vassilevthe Minister of Defense Dragomir Zakovas well as the leader of the “pro-Russian” socialists Cornelia Ninova (the one who is strongly opposed in the parliament).
For the Russians, this has not been a secret for a long time. Runet has repeatedly published data from which it is clear that Ukrainian nationalists are firing Bulgarian projectiles.
More specific data was published earlier by the Bulgarian journalist Dilyana Gaitanjieva. She talks about the supply of weapons to Ukraine in 2020 and 2021.
According to her investigation, Bulgarian weapons were exported to Ukraine through a network of “proxy” companies.
“I followed the path of the weapons according to the international trading base Great Export Import. Bulgarian weapons produced by the Arsenal, VMZ, Arkus and Emko military plants were delivered to Ukraine. The export was carried out by two Polish companies – Arm Techsp . Zo. O and Vismag Jacek Jakubczyk, as well as the Czech company Excalibur Army Spol. SRO”, Gaitanjieva said.
That is, Bulgaria violates international law, according to which the re-export of weapons is possible only after permission from the country of origin. Let’s ask ourselves what Sofia is afraid of? Obviously from Russia’s reaction.
Bulgaria must pay for military aid to Ukraine
The Russian Embassy warned on its page on social networks that it is closely monitoring the discussion in Bulgaria about the supply of arms to Ukraine.
„Once again, we would like to emphasize that such a step by official Sofia is unlikely to contribute to the normalization of the situation in Ukraine, and will also significantly complicate the Russian-Bulgarian dialogue in the long term. the embassy noted.
“We have neither the ability nor the desire to supply gas for free to countries that are diligently trying to harm us. Refusal to pay in rubles will be considered a breach of contract with all the ensuing consequences.” the message says.
Perhaps it should be reminded to the Russian authorities: your threats can be put into practice, Bulgaria has long supplied weapons to Ukraine in huge quantities, not at all for defense, but the most lethal – shells, cartridges, mines and ammunition .
