Polish factory bombed by Russia
Losses were initially estimated at PLN 10 million. Now the president of Fakro says that they were in the end to about PLN 30 million. The money is non-refundable. – There is no insurance or compensation. Maybe if Russia loses the war, there will be talks about reparations, but even in such circumstances I don’t think she will agree to pay reparations, said the head of Fakro.
He sells every seventh window in the world
In 2023, due to, among other things, the loss of the Russian market, Ryszard Florek left the company List of the richest Poles in the magazine “Forbes”. At that time, his fortune was estimated at PLN 853 million. Before that, it significantly exceeded PLN 1 billion. The companies he manages generate nearly PLN 1.5 billion in annual turnover.
– We started during communism. And that was the best time to run a business. As long as it was a small craftsman’s workshop. Back then, there was a tax card and you only paid tax per person. When the audit came, it only counted the number of employees, whether they were working and how many we paid taxes on. And today is a nightmare, said Florek.
He wanted to work with Velux, but it turned out to be his biggest competitor
Today, Fakro’s biggest competitor is Danish Velux, with whom Florek wanted to collaborate in the early 1990s. – When they entered Poland, I offered them cooperation, that we would make wood and they would assemble them, and that they would sell us components that were more expensive to prepare, but they refused such cooperation. Today, Poland makes more than 50 percent. global production of roof windows – he says.
Very quickly, competition with foreign companies became strong, especially when Fakro introduced a new product to the market in 2004, which was presented at the fair in Paris.
All of Denmark booked a plane and came to this fair to see this product. I am, of course, talking about the Velux staff. And from then on, the real hard fight began, i.e. complete destruction, complete breaking of the law without any rules, so to speak, decency. And it continues to this day – he says.
According to Florek, the result of this competition is that windows in Poland are several percent cheaper than in other countries.
