Russia Blames Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan for Nagorno-Karabakh Crisis

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MOSCOW — Russia said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan must take responsibility for Azerbaijan’s victory over Nagorno-Karabakh. Because Pashinyan tends to approach the West rather than working with Russia and Azerbaijan for peace.

Pashinyan said Russia had let Armenia down by not providing more assistance to prevent a crisis in the breakaway region. Pashinyan must change Armenia’s security alliance. The Russian Foreign Ministry responded to Pashinyan’s statement with a harsh attack.

“We are convinced that the Yerevan leadership made a big mistake by deliberately trying to destroy Armenia’s multi-faceted relations with Russia that have existed for centuries and making the country a hostage to the West’s geopolitical games,” the Russian Foreign Ministry statement said.

Russia says Pashinyan is trying to escape responsibility for his failures in domestic and foreign policy by blaming Moscow.

“Pashinyan’s statement about alliance transformation shows that he is preparing to shift from Armenia’s alliance with Moscow towards the West,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Russia says Pashinyan avoided cooperation with Russia and Azerbaijan and instead fled to the West to resolve the Karabakh crisis. Russia added that authorities in Yerevan had fueled anti-Russian hysteria in the Armenian media.
