George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney’s foundation has been declared “undesirable” by Russia. The foundation fights fights, mainly for justice and equality.
It has been characterized by Moscow as an “undesirable” organization, and therefore banned from operating in the country, as announced today by the general prosecutor’s office.
The Clooney Foundation for Justice, an American non-profit organization, “conducts work on a Hollywood scale aimed at defaming Russia, actively supports fake patriots and members of banned extremist and terrorist organizations,” the prosecutor’s statement said.
“Under the guise of humanitarian ideas, these ‘fighters for justice’ are promoting initiatives for criminal prosecutions against the highest-ranking Russian authorities,” he still complains.
“The activities of the non-governmental organization Clooney Foundation for Justice have been declared unwelcome on the soil of our country,” he adds. The announcement bears the title: “The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office appreciated the acting talent of Hollywood activists”.
It is recalled that Amal Alamuddin Clooney is a human rights lawyer who contributed to the arrest warrant for Netanyahu and the leader of Hamas.
The timeline of the bans
The Russian authorities have not stopped strengthening the suppression of opposition voices since February 2022. That is, since Russia invaded Ukraine.
At the beginning of August, the attorney general’s office had declared “undesirable” the German institution, Konrad Adenauer. This foundation is primarily aimed at promoting democracy. Also in July, Russian media outlet The Moscow Times was banned.
