London imposes sanctions on Russian company Aeroflot
Russia announced today that it was closing its airspace to all British-linked planes after London imposed sanctions on Russia’s Aeroflot for invading Ukraine, AFP and TASS reported.
Russian airspace is closed to all aircraft “owned, rented or operated by persons associated with the United Kingdom”, as well as those registered in the country, said in a statement the Russian aviation regulator Rosaviatsia.
Yesterday, Rosaviatsia offered the British side to hold consultations on compliance with the rules of flight between the two countries. “There was a negative response from British colleagues this morning.” On this basis, Russia is taking similar measures “in accordance with the provisions of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Air Transport between Russia and the United Kingdom in order to respect the principle of parity and equal rights for airlines,” Rosaviatsia was quoted as saying by TASS.
