Russia bans airlines from 36 countries from crossing its country

Jakarta

Russia has banned airlines from 36 countries including the UK and Germany from crossing its territory. The ban came into effect Monday (28/2).

Reported by AFP, Tuesday (1/3/2022) the ban was in retaliation for the decision of some European countries to ban Russian airlines from crossing the area in the aftermath of the invasion of Ukraine.

“As an act of retaliation for the prohibition of European countries on flights by civil airlines operated by Russian airlines or registered in Russia,” he said.

Moscow says airlines will only be able to enter Russian airspace with special permits.

Previously, Russian authorities banned all British flights in its airspace. The ban covers transit flights and landings at Russian airports. The ban began Friday (25/2) after Russian airline Aeroflot was barred from flying over British airspace in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
