Russia Attacks Ukraine After West Promises Battle Tanks, 11 People Killed

Jakarta

A string of missile and drone attacks launched Russia to Ukraine on Thursday (26/1) local time killing at least 11 people. This series of attacks was carried out a day after Germany and the United States promised battle tanks for Ukraine.

Reported by the news agency AFPOn Friday, the latest wave of Russian strikes came as the Kremlin said it considered the tanks “as direct involvement in the conflict”.

As a result of the latest Russian missile attack, Ukrainian emergency services said that 11 people were killed and 11 others were injured.

Ukrainian military said its troops destroyed 47 of the 55 missiles launched by Russia.

Since October, Russia has launched regular attacks on energy infrastructure across Ukraine, where temperatures are near freezing.

Ukraine’s Energy Minister German Galushchenko accused Russia of trying to “create a systemic failure in Ukraine’s energy system.”

Russia’s latest offensive comes after the United States said on Wednesday it would supply 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, while Chancellor German Olaf Scholz gave the go-ahead to post 14 tank Leopard 2, which has been requested for months by Ukraine.

The British government also said it would send the battle tanks by the end of March, with training starting next week.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his hope that the West would send long-range missiles and jets to his country to help repel them Russian forces.
