Russia attacks the Ukrainian electricity system again – 2024-04-10 08:55:42

Fifteen days after a new campaign of attacks against the Ukrainian electrical system began, Russia hit energy infrastructures again in three regions of Ukraine in their attacks with drones and missiles in recent hours, as reported today by the Ministry of energy of Ukraine.

“The enemy twice attacked equipment of a high-voltage substation in the Zaporizhia region with drones; damage has occurred to the equipment”the Ministry explained in a statement.

The Ministry also speaks of damage to a high voltage line in the region of Jarkov that has affected the operation of another power subplant. Two other high voltage lines stopped working in the region of Dnipropetrovskwhich has also been attacked with drones.

In addition, fragments from a Russian missile shot down by Ukrainian defenses in Dnipropetrovsk have generated an explosion in a gas infrastructure in the region, causing damage to a building.

The Ukrainian state electricity company, Ukrenergohas also reported damage to the equipment of an electrical substation in that same region.

According to Ukrenergo, about 400 localities in the regions of Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Nikolaev, Sumi, Jarkov y Kherson They are without electricity due to Russian attacks or hostilities in front or border regions with Russia.

In the last two weeks, Russia has launched the worst attacks against the Ukrainian energy system since the end of 2022, when millions of Ukrainians spent weeks without light or heat due to bombing of their power and thermal plants. Hundreds of thousands of electricity system subscribers suffered power outages in these latest waves of attacks.

The Russian offensive against Ukrainian provinces such as Jarkov, Zaporizhia o Dnipropetrovsk They have revealed the vulnerability of the strategic infrastructures of most regions of the country to Russian air attacks.
