Russia approves its third COVID-19 vaccine,’Kobibak’

Russia has officially approved the third COVID-19 vaccine’Kobibak’ developed by itself.

Russia’s Prime Minister Mikhail Mischstein announced the approval of Kobibak at a meeting on vaccines on the 20th, and said that the first production of Kobibak would be 120,000 doses on the market in the middle of next month.

Prime Minister Mischstein stressed that Russia is the only country to have developed three types of COVID-19 vaccines to date.

Health Minister Mikhail Murashko also explained to reporters that Kobebak proved its efficacy and safety in a clinical trial for volunteers.

He introduced that even after approval, a phase 3 clinical trial (Phase 3) will be carried out, and at the same time, the market will be supplied as well.

Kobivac is an inactivated vaccine developed by the Chumakov Immunology Research and Development Center under the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Inactivated vaccine is a traditional vaccine manufacturing method that produces antibodies in the body by injecting a virus that has removed its ability to replicate.

Idar Ishmuhametov, director of the Chumakoff Center, explained, “Because Kobibak uses the whole virus, not a piece of genetic information, it works for mutant viruses as well.”
