Moscow, 19 December (EFE).- Russia and China will conduct joint naval exercises in the waters of the East China Sea or Yellow Sea from 21 to 27 this month, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Monday.

The exercises, dubbed “Naval Interaction” and which have taken place every year since 2012, this time include artillery fire drills and missile launches, the department said in a statement.

According to the Defense, the Russian and Chinese ships will try coordinated maneuvers to fight the submarines with the use of weapons.

“The main objective of the exercises is to enhance naval cooperation between Russia and the People’s Republic of China and maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region,” the press release read.

On the Russian side, the cruiser “Variag”, flagship of the Russian Pacific Fleet, the frigate “Marshal Shaposhnikov” and the corvettes “Aldar Tsydemzhapov” and “Sovershennyi” will participate in the joint exercises.

These maneuvers will be joined by planes and helicopters from the Russian Pacific Fleet and the Chinese navy, which will send two destroyers, two patrol boats, a diesel submarine and a supply ship to the exercise area.

In addition to naval exercises, Russia and China jointly conduct regular air patrol missions in the Asia-Pacific region using strategic aircraft.EFE
