Russia Announces Armistice in 2 Ukrainian Cities So Residents Can Refuge

Ministry of Defence Russia announced a ceasefire on Saturday (5/3) to allow residents to evacuate from two cities Ukraine surrounded by Russian troops. One of them, including the strategic port city of Mariupol.

Mariupol, a city of about 450,000 people on the Sea of ​​Azov, is a strategic port city that allows important maritime access. The takeover of the city could link Moscow troops coming from the annexed Crimean peninsula to the Donbas forces controlled by pro-Russian separatists.

Volnovakha is a city of about 20,000 people located near the former Ukrainian front line with Russian-backed separatists, and about 60 kilometers (38 miles) from separatist-held Donetsk.
