Russia and Ukraine extend the agreement on the export of grains and fertilizers for another four months

Russia and Ukraine agreed on Thursday to extend the grain and fertilizer export contract in the absence of two days until its deadline, while the Russian government insists that parallel the export of its fertilizers.

The extension of the agreement to extend this maritime corridor for another four months, which expired this Saturday, was forged during the G20 summit held this week in Indonesia, where Guterres and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met, the whose country had repeatedly reported non-compliance with the Russian part of the document.

The deal will allow ships with grain in their holds to continue sailing from three Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, according to Oleksii Kubrakov, Ukraine’s infrastructure minister.

«An agreement has been reached to extend the operation of the so-called ‘grain corridor’. We must ensure that the export capacity of our ports is used to its fullest extent to supply the world with the volumes of food it needs in a timely manner,” he explained.

Furthermore, he indicated that Ukraine has officially appealed to the other parties to accept the offer to extend it for at least another year and include the port of Mykolaiv.

For its part, the Kremlin said it received “guarantees from the United Nations” that obstacles to Russia’s grain and fertilizer exports would be removed before agreeing to extend the deal.

For now, he added, the UN’s work to remove obstacles to Russian exports “is producing results”.
