Russian forces have carried out drone strikes on energy infrastructure in Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, and surrounding areas.
The Ukrainian air force said the Russians carried out “massive” drone strikes overnight, claiming its air defense system had destroyed all 39 of Shahid’s drones.
“Russia has carried out several Shahid drone strikes,” Governor Oleksi Kuleva said in a telegram the same day. .
Kiwu Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said the airstrikes cut off some supplies of electricity and heat.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said “no drones, no missiles, nothing else will help them”.
“Because we are united, and they will only be united by fear,” he said.
Earlier, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said Russia carried out airstrikes on New Year’s Day using Iranian-made Shaheed self-destructing drones and missiles.
