Russia and Ukraine Accuse Each Other of New Year’s Eve Attacks, Prompting Threats of Revenge in 2024

Russia and Ukraine started 2024 with accusations back and forth over New Year’s Eve attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed during his New Year’s speech that this will be the year in which Ukraine takes revenge on the Russians.

The Russians report that Ukraine has bombed Donetsk. Three people are said to have been killed in bombing raids on the Russian-occupied city, Russian officials report. Another seven people are said to have been injured.

Ukraine claims that the Russians have targeted several cities. The cities of Mykolaiv, Dnipro and Odesa, among others, are said to have been affected. No announcements are made about victims.

The claims on both sides could not be independently verified.
